Go Heels!

Here is an adorable picture of our little Tarheel sporting her UNC bib ;)

Things in the Schultz household are going pretty well. We are all enjoying Sophia very much; she makes such a great nap partner. Cobalt particularly enjoys Sophia's paraphernalia. The boppy is just his size. He particularly enjoys curling up with us because the weather here has been getting pretty cold. He likes to go outside still, but definitely can't stand it for very long and will run inside when we open the door -- something unheard of for this little crazy who is scared of the door and very tentative about passing through it.

Next week we plan to take a trip down to Pensacola to visit some family and enjoy the Greater Gulfcoast Arts Festival. Sophia is looking forward to meeting some amazing people, not to mention her namesake Wyona! Great Grandmom, here we come!

Our First Trip to Starbucks

A couple days ago Sophia had her first Starbucks experience. And she looked so Anthropologie for the occasion -- very hip. She enjoyed the cool music and atmosphere of the cafe immensely. Matt and I felt refreshed being out of the house with her so much so that we did it again yesterday, although this time she slept and we read our books. It was very relaxing.

Today we were so excited because Sophia actually slept during the wee hours of the morning instead of spending her time wiggling (code for "imminent puke") and crying -- puking goes without saying. She slept from about 1am to 5am, ate, and then slept another 4 hours! It was amazing! We all got a lot of sleep today. Then in the afternoon Sophia had a blast hanging out on her floor "gym," kicking her legs like mad and working on her tummy time. She was a very active little lady today! Now she is stretching out her little arms after a nap in the beloved bouncy seat -- she loves to do that and raise her chin to show off her fat cheeks. Looks like she is ready for some attention!

Tea and Treats

This weekend Sophia got to meet her Papa, Ne-Ne, and Uncle Peter -- Uncle Dan was missed, but we look forward to a great Turkey Day meeting! She was very content in the arms of her grandparents and looks forward to seeing them again very soon. Thanks to Papa and Ne-Ne for the opportunity to go out on the town; we are sure that you enjoyed your evenings just as much (if not more with a wonderful companion like our little girl!).

Sophia also was honored with a very elegant but cozy high tea at the Ritz-Carlton this past Saturday. She loved her dress so much that she managed to keep it clean the entire time! She also was alert and awake for just about the entire outing as she was adored and doted upon by her dear family. Thanks for all the wonderful clothes and "baby gifts" ;) Sophia will be sporting them all in no time -- she is oh so chic with aunts like hers!

One Month!

Today is Sophia's one month birthday! We had a visit to the pediatrician that went very well (despite the dreaded hepatitus shot -- ouch!). Sophia now weighs 12 lbs. and is 22.5 inches tall. She's a big girl! So, despite the reflux problem, she is thriving ;) We have started giving her rice cereal with her formula and breastmilk which weighs down the meal so it is more likely to stay in the tummy rather than reappear (whether a couple minutes or an hour later). I do miss nursing her, but this is better for all of us. The cereal has made a huge difference for her -- now we don't have to do multiple loads of laundry in a day just to be sure we have clean burp cloths to collect the puke. It is such a blessing!

In other news, Sophia is going to be meeting her paternal grandparents and Uncle Peter tomorrow! We are very excited for this weekend. (And Sophia and I are super excited about the high tea on Saturday with some amazing women! I am sure she will grow up to be a tea-lover like her mommy.)

The sweetest little beauty.

Our little tree frog.

This bouncy seat is Sophia's favorite -- it keeps her well elevated after meals and also has a special vibrating feature that soothes her to sleep. Plus it has fun rainforest sounds!

Out and About

Just a couple days ago Matt and I had a wonderful, albeit short, outing. It was so nice to get out of the house. First at the beginning of the day we had a stroll around our apartment complex. The weather was beautiful and fresh feeling -- we are on the cusp of fall here! Then a bit later we gave Sophia a nice, warm bath like a big girl! She sat in her little tub and really enjoyed the warm washing, which was so encouraging for me since she wasn't wailing and making the very sad face with quivering lip that melts my heart. We had a nice time together (although she was a bit cold when we took her out). After her bath we all went to Old Navy together in search of some one-pieces for Sophia, and she was so content and quiet and puke-less! It was a wonderful day.

Cobalt wanted to go along for the ride -- here he is in the stroller basket ...maybe another day.

Yesterday we all went to Children's Hospital for Sophia's upper GI track test. Matt and I watched a screen that showed the x-ray of Sophia eating; the barium went down her esophagus and filled her stomach, and then of course came back up the esophagus. But she is just fine -- there is nothing wrong anatomically -- she simply suffers from reflux. Tonight we get to try adding rice cereal to her formula and pumped breast milk, which is meant to weigh it down and help her to keep it down. Apparently it could take a week before it begins to make a difference, but we are very hopeful!

Of Burps and Pukes

Things in the Schultz household are pretty bumpy right now. We are all getting fairly exhausted with the reflux symptoms. Poor Sophia is now on a new medication to try and get it under control. This is day two of Prevacid, but it doesn't seem to be working all that well. Sophia rarely tolerates a sleep in her crib because laying down just exacerbates the reflux. Matt spent most of the night up with her to let me get some extra sleep -- the night before was a rough one for me. Sophia also gets hungry more often since she isn't keeping down all of what we feed her. Often Laura will nurse Sophia, endure spit up and pukies -- we're talking major ones that come out the nose, and then have a ravenously hungry baby at an almost empty breast which makes both mommy and Sophia frustrated and fussy. That's the lowdown from the reflux side.

On another note, Sophia is beautiful and still quite chubby and healthy despite the reflux (thank God!). I don't know how much she weighs now, but a week ago (at her 2 week doctor visit) she had already surpassed her birth weight at a whopping 9lbs. 15 oz. She also makes a really adorable face (Laura's favorite) when she is getting ready to be fed; it is a little "o" with her mouth. Actually, it is very reminiscent of Zoolander's Blue Steel pose. She has gorgeous big eyes that are a bit mysterious in that you can't quite tell their color. They are dark and grayish, but sometimes they look blue and other times they look perhaps a bit brown. I can't wait to take her with me everywhere, but everything is extremely unpredictable with her right now since her schedule is run by what remains in her stomach, but she is just 19 days old. In a couple of weeks Sophia will be having a little party in her honor -- a high-tea at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta with her aunts, cousins, and grandmothers! We can't wait! There will be plenty of pictures ;)

She is just so adorable!
